HONEST REVIEW
- Clinical Exposure: The program is highly regarded for its “open access” approach. A fellow is encouraged to see almost every retina patient that walks through the door, allowing for an intense learning curve in a short period.
- Hands-on & Procedures:
- Diagnostics: Extensive hands-on with OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), FFA (Fundus Fluorescein Angiography), and B-Scan interpretation.
- Lasers: Excellent volume for Retinal Lasers (PRP, Barrage, Focal). Because there is only one fellow, you are the primary person for all laser procedures.
- Injections: High volume of Intravitreal Injections (Anti-VEGFs and steroids).
- Work Culture & Schedule:
- Hours: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
- Environment: Professionally rewarding and focused. There are no night duties and no community camps, allowing you to focus entirely on tertiary medical retina.
- The “One-on-One” Advantage: Unlike larger institutions where multiple fellows compete for cases, the one-fellow-per-session policy at Nethra ensures that your 3 months are packed with active clinical decision-making and procedural turns.
PERSONAL OPINION
Nethra Eye Institute is a “Procedural Bootcamp.” It is the ideal choice for a post-MS/DNB candidate or a comprehensive consultant who wants to gain rapid surgical confidence in retinal lasers and injections without committing to a 2-year fellowship. The 1-lakh fee is an investment in “cutting time” and diagnostic volume. If you are a self-starter who wants to see 30+ retina patients a day and perform 5+ lasers, this is one of the best private short-term modules in South India.
