HONEST REVIEW
- The “Tanaji” Mentorship: Training is directly led by Dr. Tanaji, a senior surgeon known for exceptional surgical speed (3–5 minute phacos).
- Personalized Entry: The course begins with a comprehensive overview of ergonomics, instrument holding, and safety protocols tailored to the trainee’s current skill level.
- One-on-One: Unlike larger institutes where you may be one of many, the one-on-one time here significantly accelerates the learning curve.
- Surgical Progression:
- First Week: Focuses on familiarity with the machine (Oertli or Legion platforms) and basic steps.
- Independence: Once Dr. Tanaji is confident in your safety, you can operate side-by-side or independently on a second table.
- Clinical Setup:
- OT Hours: Monday to Saturday, typically 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM. Sundays are off.
- Technique: Trainees observe Dr. Tanaji’s routine list first, then perform their assigned cases immediately after.
- Logistics: Sangli is well-connected by rail (Poorna Express) and road (1 hour from Kolhapur Airport). Being a charitable hospital, the volume of cataracts is consistently high, ensuring cases are always available.
PERSONAL OPINION
SVP Lions Sangli is a “High-Velocity Finish” program. It is one of the most cost-effective ways to get 30 cases in a high-tech environment with the added bonus of free accommodation. It is especially recommended for surgeons who feel “stuck” in their progression and need a senior mentor to push them toward faster, safer independent surgery. The transition from “watching” to “doing” is much faster here than in more rigid academic setups.
