NAME OF THE INSTITUTE: Sankara Eye Hospital, Guntur (GTR) & Bengaluru (BLR)
- DURATION: 24 Months
- HONEST REVIEW:
- Guntur (GTR): This is one of the most sought-after branches for pure surgical volume. However, the tradeoff is a significantly grueling workload and a lack of work-life balance. It is a high-intensity “bootcamp” style experience.
- Bengaluru (BLR): While historically popular, this branch currently faces challenges with “consultant saturation.” High numbers of permanent staff and issues with nepotism can lead to limited surgical hands-on opportunities for fellows, despite strong academic foundations.
- Branch Dynamics: Trainees should be aware that “brand name” does not always equate to “surgical hands-on.” The BLR branch is better suited for those prioritizing academic theory over primary surgeon numbers.
- PERSONAL OPINION: Choose Guntur if your sole objective is maximum volume and you can handle extreme stress. Choose Bengaluru only if you are looking for academic credentials and are prepared to fight for surgical cases.
