STIPEND & SELECTION
- Monthly Remuneration: ₹30,000 (Standard Fellowship) | ₹56,000 (DNB Residents).
- Selection Process: Interview-based. Candidates are typically evaluated on their basic surgical orientation and clinical knowledge.
- Intake: Staggered and “on-need” basis. Usually, 2 fellows are present per session.

1. Surgical Hands-on (The Volume Advantage)
- Timeline: You generally begin SICS around the 2nd–3rd month. Transition to Phacoemulsification happens around the 8th–9th month, though this is merit-based.
- Estimated Volume: The surgical output is exceptionally high for a private trust:
- SICS: ~800 cases.
- Phaco: ~700 cases.
- Complex Cases: Proficient fellows are given exposure to “advanced” cataracts, including Pseudoexfoliation (PXF), hard nuclei, and small pupil management.
- Complication Management: Fellows are trained in Iris Claw IOL implantation and Anterior Vitrectomy. Topical Phaco is also taught to those showing high surgical caliber.
2. Clinical Exposure
- Rotations: While the primary focus is Cataract, fellows rotate through Glaucoma, Retina, and Paediatric departments.
- Autonomy: You independently manage the Charity OPD, which provides a massive variety of clinical presentations and builds strong diagnostic foundations.
- Refractive: Includes a rotation in the Refractive suite, though this is currently observation-only with no hands-on laser training for fellows.
3. Work Culture & Schedule
- Environment: Hectic during “peak seasons” (winter months) but generally described as non-toxic and supportive. You are mentored by both senior consultants and senior fellows.
- Duties: * Camps: 2–3 per week (Peripheral postings). You are usually back by evening.
- Calls: ~2 Night duties per month + occasional Sunday duties.
PERSONAL OPINION
ICARE Noida is a “Surgical Powerhouse” for North India. It is one of the few places where you can achieve four-figure surgical numbers within 18 months in a structured environment. It is the ideal choice for a candidate who is already comfortable with the basics and wants to reach “high-speed” surgical proficiency. While it lacks refractive hands-on, the sheer volume of cataract work makes it a top-tier destination for surgical refinement.
