Honest Review of the Fellowship
This is a comprehensive ophthalmology fellowship with rotational exposure across multiple subspecialties over 2 years.
Intake: 1–2 fellows per year
Selection Process: Interview (online / walk-in)
Fellows are rotated every 2–3 months across different specialties. During each posting, you attend OPD and OT, and may get surgical steps or cases depending on the department and your performance.
Training Experience

Initial 1 month: Dry lab + Wet lab training

From 2nd month: SICS training begins
Surgical Exposure:

OT twice a week

Initially 1 case per OT → gradually increases with confidence

OT shared with PG residents
Phaco Training:

Starts once you are proficient in SICS

May begin within 1st year if performance is good

Otherwise, may start in last 6 months
Additional Points:

No structured training in complication management (consultants usually take over complications)

Work Culture & Duties
Academics:

Daily classes at 8 AM (30 min)

Wednesday & Saturday: 7:30 AM (1 hour sessions)
Working Hours:

OPD: 9 AM – 5 PM
Duties:

Sunday duty: ~1/month

Camp duties: 1–2/month
Department: Slightly hectic but non-toxic; consultants are approachable
Personal Opinion
This fellowship is suitable for those looking for broad-based ophthalmology exposure across multiple subspecialties with gradual surgical training.
However, surgical independence and complication management training may be limited. Phaco training depends heavily on individual performance and may be delayed for beginners.
