- Intake & Selection: Highly focused training with only one fellow inducted at a time. This ensures you are the primary assistant for all complex cases in the department.
- Clinical Exposure (9/10): The standout feature of this fellowship. Giridhar is a major referral hub, meaning you see a massive variety of “textbook” and rare cases. The management is described as tailored and non-protocolized, which significantly sharpens clinical decision-making skills.
- Surgical Hands-on (6/10): * Opportunities: While you get to assist in 100% of the cases, independent “start-to-finish” surgical opportunities are reportedly limited.
- Scope: You will gain proficiency in basic procedures (DCR, small lid repairs, injections), but advanced orbital or aesthetic cases are primarily consultant-led.
- Work Culture & Environment:
- Atmosphere: Described as non-toxic and professional.
- Pace: Initially very hectic as you learn the system, but becomes manageable over time.
- Duties: * Night Calls: 4 nights per month. Note that there are no compensatory offs following night duties.
- Sundays: One mandatory Sunday day duty per month.

PERSONAL OPINION
Giridhar Eye Hospital’s Oculoplasty fellowship is a “Clinical Masterclass.” It is the ideal choice for a candidate who wants to graduate as a superior diagnostician. If your goal is to understand why a certain surgical approach is chosen for a complex orbital tumor or a recurrent ptosis, the exposure here is elite. However, if you are looking for a “surgical workhorse” program to get hundreds of independent DCRs or Ptosis corrections, you may find the hands-on volume conservative.
