HONEST REVIEW
- Selection & Intake: The institute inducts one fellow per session, twice annually (January and July cycles). Admission is determined via a formal interview process.
- Surgical Focus: This is a specialized Phacoemulsification track. Unlike many general fellowships, there is no SICS component; the curriculum is exclusively dedicated to Phaco training.
- Operative Volume: Fellows are guaranteed a high-density surgical load, with a minimum of 300 Phacoemulsification cases documented by the end of the year.
- Training Timeline: Surgical hands-on begins relatively early, with Phaco training initiated by the second or third month. The hospital provides daily OT access to ensure consistent skill development.
- Infrastructure & Academics: A dedicated wet-lab facility is available for residents and fellows to refine techniques outside of live surgery. The program also maintains a structured academic schedule with regular theory classes.
- Workflow: Daily operative shifts are supplemented by clinical OPD duties to ensure a balanced understanding of pre-operative case selection and post-operative management.
PERSONAL OPINION
This is an excellent “Phaco-intensive” fellowship for surgeons who wish to bypass SICS and move directly into a high-volume Phacoemulsification role. It is ideal for candidates seeking a focused, single-year residency with stable accommodation. However, the 3-year post-fellowship bond is a significant long-term commitment that should be carefully weighed against your future career mobility.
