HONEST REVIEW
- Surgical Density: This program is recognized for having one of the fastest surgical turnarounds in India. Fellows can expect to complete roughly 25 phacoemulsification cases within just 9 operative days, making it ideal for those on a tight schedule.
- Clinical Breadth: Training is comprehensive, covering a spectrum of nuclear densities from NS-1 to NS-4, as well as challenging scenarios like small pupil phacoemulsification.
- Mentorship & Guidance: The program features dedicated personal trainers (notably Bindu ma’am) who provide step-by-step intraoperative guidance. Additionally, fellows have the opportunity to observe and interact with high-volume senior surgeons like Avinash sir.
- Technique Focus: Heavy emphasis on mastering the Direct Chop technique, including cataract management and precise IOL implantation.
- Environment: The institute maintains a zero-stress, supportive, and professional atmosphere. The staff is highly skilled and accustomed to training visiting surgeons.
- Logistics: * Accommodation: On-campus hostel facilities are available for males (highly recommended for proximity), while females typically stay in nearby off-campus hostels.
- Food: A decent canteen is available on-site, though many trainees opt for outside delivery services for variety.
PERSONAL OPINION
Srikiran is a “surgical powerhouse” suited for the surgeon who wants maximum hands-on volume in the shortest possible window. It is particularly valuable because of the institute’s mission—founded by Dr. Chandra Sekhar Sankurathri in memory of his family lost in the 1985 Air India bombing—which infuses the hospital with a unique spirit of service and excellence. It is best for those who already have basic phaco knowledge and want to rapidly scale their surgical confidence.
